In July of 1760, the Chaleur Bay region became a stage for "The Battle of the Restigouche"; the last naval battle between France and England for possession of North American lands.
In July of 2010 we journey back in time. The stage will once again be set, but this time to commemorate and honor the people and the era of 1760!
Our Goal:
To advance an era of collaboration from the conflict and coexistence of the past.
The Festival:
You will feel as though you have stepped back in time as you stroll through our temporary villages, representing the life and cultures of 1760, Acadian, French, Mi'gmaq and Scottish. Enjoy water activities, canoe races, a sailboat flotilla, Pirate day and be astonished with a view of the Chaleur Phantom. Outdoor musical concerts, including local musicians, will showcase the different cultures. Horse drawn carriage rides, fur trading, cemetery walks, the burial of a time capsule, treasure hunts and many other activities, which are still in the planning stages.
The Commemoration:
To commemorate the 250th anniversary there will be tall ships in the bay, schooners and longboats in the estuary with costumed actors providing a theatrical display of the period. Military drills and demonstrations are planned! Our members, Dave Ferguson, Wendy Cosper, Charles Borris, Irene Doyle, Joe Wilmot, Mike Soucy, Ghislaine Arsenault, Michael Moores-LeBlanc, and Alex MacDonald are all volunteers who are working to raise interest, acquire funding, and recruit more volunteers as we bring our project to life.
We are a Quebec and New Brunswick registered non-profit organization. Restigouche 1760 Inc. is not affiliated with The Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site or The Historical Machault Society.
